Visvesvaraya Technological University established in Belgaum with a view to giving a new dimension to technical education in Karnataka has come a long way since its inception on April 1, 1998. Having carved niche for itself in the field of technical education in the country, VTU has set the tone for scaling dizzy heights through innovative programmes being launched by it at regular intervals.

Academic Section of University is administered by Registrar with co-ordination of Special Officers and dedicated staff.

This section mainly deals academic matters, namely

1. Affiliation of Institutions
As per provision of VTU ACT 1994 , VTU can affiliate only Engineering colleges i.e. offering B.E./B.Tech. courses. The institutions who wish to offer PG programs i.e. M.Tech. / MBA / MCA programs have to start with B.E. / B. Tech. programs.The jurisdiction of University is spread over the Karnataka State.

2. Recognition of Research Centres
The departments of engineering colleges are recognised as Research Centers on an application to University. The Govt. National labs by nature are Research Centers of this University. But, to register for Doctoral Programs prior approval of University is required.

3. Preparation Syllabi for Various Courses

5. Admission Approval
Affiliated colleges are required to submit the list of admitted students for various courses within a due period by the University along with necessary documents and prescribed fees. The admissions made by college can be Cancelled / Disapproved by the University at any point of time if found not eligible for any valid reasons.

6. Registration for Doctoral Programmes and M.Sc.(Eng..) by Research Programmes. This process is governed by the Regulations of the Ph.D. programs.
